Show Summary:
Mix a Hitchcock masterpiece with a juicy spy novel, add a dash of Monty Python and you have The 39 Steps, a fast-paced whodunit for anyone who loves the magic of theatre! This two-time Tony and Drama Desk Award-winning treat is packed with nonstop laughs, over 150 zany characters (played by a flexible cast of 6 or so… ), an onstage plane crash, handcuffs, missing fingers, and some good old-fashioned romance!
CASTING BREAKDOWN:
Richard Hannay: 30-55, Upper-class British, hapless hero, an ordinary man who has led a pretty hum-drum existence, finds himself fleeing from the wrongful accusation of murder through a series of improbable adventures as he is pursued by the authorities. **There will be intimate moments between Hannay and the women in the show, so please come prepared to talk about your flexibility with this concept.**
Annabella/Pamela/Margaret: 25-50, 1 woman will play 3 different versions of femme fatale who set and guide Hannay on his journey to solve the mystery of The 39 Steps.
**There will be intimate moments between Hannay and the women in the show, so please come prepared to talk about your flexibility with this concept.**
All the other characters, approximately 150, will be played by the 2-4 other actors in the cast. For these “clowns”, we are looking for very physical comedians. You must be willing to try funny voices, accents, and different types of movement to create unique characters.
Please come to the audition ready to perform any circus-like talents or stupid human tricks you may have up your sleeve in addition to participating in some improv games – both spoken and silent!
